Aesthetics and your body

We humans are not exempted from this vanity, from the time of our earliest ancestors to the present age of the modern man; we have always been obsessed with beauty. This deep seated trait has been the fuel of one of the most lucrative branches of the medical field, cosmetic surgery. From simple nips and tucks, to liposuction, to Botox injections, this aesthetic branch of surgery has hundreds of ways to “improve” a person’s physical appearance.

Aside from having a stunning face, having an attractive and sexy body is also one of the most sought after goals of people going through these surgical procedures. A surgical procedure that addresses this need is liposuction, this process involves sucking out the unwanted fat deposits in the human body by using specialized tools that loosen the fat deposit and siphon it out of the body.

Liposuction or lipoplasty has a few different types in terms of the way fat is removed or the mechanism of liposuction; SAL or Suction assisted Liposuction: this is most common form of liposuction where the only thing used is a liposuction tube attached to suction machines which draws out the fat when the surgeon inserts the tube in small surgical incisions over the target area.WAL or water assisted liposuction: this technique employs pressurized water jets that dislodges the fat deposits so that they can be vacuumed out of the body.

PAL or power assisted liposuction, this is an upgrade of the suction assisted variation wherein instead of the surgeon having to move the cannula or suction tube around, an improved cannula moves on its own and is guided by computer sensors to reduce injury caused by trauma from the cannula movement. UAL, Ultrasound assisted liposuction, this technique uses ultrasound waves transmitted through the cannnula to loosen and breakdown the fat tissue for easier suctioning.

EUAL, external ultrasound assisted liposuction: this is similar to UAL but the ultrasound waves are applied outside of the body to decrease the risks of tissue necrosis and scaring associated with internal ultrasound application. LL or laser liposuction: this is one of the latest developments in the field of liposuction; the procedure makes use of laser rays that generate precise beams of heat to melt fat cells before they are suctioned out. These are just a few of the techniques in lipoplasty that are being used today; it all depends on the surgeon’s expertise and the patient’s preference on what technique they choose to apply.

These procedures are not without risks, there are well documented cases of complications associated with liposuction all over the different news media. If you are planning to have these kinds of procedures, make sure to do your own comprehensive research, don’t be afraid to ask your doctor all the needed questions, and ensure that you will be having the procedure in a reputable and experienced facility, this is not the time to try and cut costs and go to a discount clinic.
