What is it and how does it work?
The Athena Peel uses a 2940 Erbium laserto safely remove a layer of skin to a depth determined by your medical provider, it is the best way to address the problematic lines that occur around the mouth and eyes. Your medical provider will use a combination of ablation (removal of tissue) and coagulation(putting heat in the skin for tightening) to give you firmer more even skin tone and texture.
What does treat?
It is used to treat moderate to deep wrinkles especially around the eyes and mouth. It helps treat sun damage and improves firmness.
What can I expect during my treatment?
When you arrive, your medical history and medications will be reviewed, you will be consented, and photos of the treatment area will be taken. Your provider will cleanse your skin perform a superficial Micro laser peel and apply numbing cream that will stay on the skin for 1 hour. You will be given medication to help you relax during the treatment. After 1 hour the numbing cream will be removed, and metal contact-like eye shields will be applied to protect your eyes during the procedure.
Regional nerve blocks will be performed to provide further comfort during your treatment.
During the treatment a tiny laser beam is used to treat your skin. Several passes will be made in each area.
Post treatment you will be red and swollen, there may be quite a bit of pin point bleeding. You will be given a post care kit of products to use at home. Healing will take 7-10 days during which you will experience redness, swelling and peeling. Once the peeling is complete redness that is easily covered with make-up may remain for up to 30 days. Do not worry Red=Results.
When can I expect to see results?
Smoother, more even skin will be revealed about 2 weeks after the treatment. Improvements continue for up to 6 months.
Prepping the skin with Vitamin A and growth factors as well as hydroquinone (for darker skin types) for 2 weeks before the treatment is a must. Performing a Benefit peel or a MLP before the treatment will also help prep the skin and aid in healing.
